I am now teach a couple of workshops on patchwork along side my work teaching basic sewing skills and confidence building with vulnerable adults.
So I have to pull together course materials, ideas and demonstration quilts that learners can access and use for inspiration as well as learning tools. This has to be done and is a long process, but once it is done the materials can be transferred to other course in the future - I just need to have days without sick children to accomplish this!
So this week I am focusing on the task of preparing for a course starting on Monday 18th February at Prema Arts, in Gloucestershire. It is a 5 week course aimed at giving the learners skills in cutting, design, quilting and finishing.
I am going to be using half square triangles (HST) as a basis for the course as they are incredibly versatile in design and will stretch their cutting skills.
So how does the planning process start - with an idea.... then a whole heap of sewing and lesson plan writing!
Start with a collection of HST in any fabrics you fancy!
Arrange them into 6 different designs using 16 HST in each design.
Sew up each design.....
I am working through each design, so I have 6 blocks. These are then going to be quilted in different ways so that the can be used a teaching tool for design and quilting.....
Best get on with it!
