Trying something new...

I have a hundred quilt books, just like all quilters.... I love them... I love looking through them and seeing the fabric ideas... tell me I am not alone in this???

So I have had my copy of Liberty Love book for ages and have had 3 sewing projects from it that I want to make. It has just been a matter of timing...

This last week has been hard work - a lovely couple of new courses started, which were great fun. But I finished the week with an eye infection. Turns out I am allergic to the main ointment used to treat the infection so I am not in drops number 2 and feeling very sorry for myself!

So the obvious thing to do is to start making a new quilt! This is where the Marcelle Medallion comes in!

I have never made a medallion quilt before but I have been hoarding my bundles Katy (I'm a Ginger Monkey) and Rita (Red Pepper Quilts) that are from Fat Quarter Shop just for this project.

You can see from Katy's bundle that it is full of sweet prints and Rita's is no different:

I am very excited to start this quilt, but I suspect it will take me a while as I am desperate to get my Swoon quilt finished and on my bed before it gets too much colder!

Expanding my fabric horizons

I will be honest, I would never have picked the fabrics myself - too pink and delicate - but I actually love them both!

This has really surprised me!

I suppose that is the joy of a club - they expand your stash and help to expand your quilting possibilities

In my head, they are coming together in a medallion quilt... maybe one from the fabulous Sarah Fielke....

Feeding an addiction!

I know, I am addict and I need to feed my addiction.... there are many worse things in the world to be addicted to than fabric!

Last week my bloggers bundle arrived from Fat Quarterly shop and it has some amazing fabrics. The bundle was put together by Angela Pingel who has a blog called Cut to Pieces.

Among bundle there are these wonderful glasses from Geekly Chic:

This one from Urban Mod is really funky!

It is such an amazing bundle and one of the reasons I am part of the Bloggers Bundle Club, so many wonderful fabrics together in way I struggle to put together using just computer images.

They are so lovely..... I couldn't get them out of my head all day.... so I just had to buy them....

Addiction to fabric is a might fine thing you know!

Taking the plunge!

On Monday driving back from my course in Cheltenham, I decided that I had done enough thinking about the fabulous bundle from M is for Make and it was time to buy it!

It arrived yesterday whilst I was home with a sick middle monster - an advantage to being home with a sick child!

The fabrics are as vibrant as I thought they would be! The combination is scrummy!

I love the orange just as much as I thought I would and my first piece of chevron is fabulous - I might need more in my life....

I will admit that things have been a bit tough here for a week or so - sole parenting can be challenging sometimes - and buying the bundle was a bit of retail therapy. My fabric is only for me, it is my thing that allows me to have something private in a life driven by the needs of my 3 boys.

Even so, deciding to buy fabric when money is tight is a big decision. I buy stuff for work, it is part of my job to have all the supplies and fabrics I need for a course, but buying for my secret stash is very self indulgent. It means I take ages to gaze at fabrics before I take the plunge and purchase them, but when they arrive they give me such joy and pleasure they are worth the money.

They give me some space to plan a new project, the excitement of sewing and most importantly, they give me something that is mine - all mine......

How do you decide whether or not to buy fabric?

I haven't been fabric shopping again - I promise!

But I have noticed a few bundles that I really love!

Starting at M is for Make, this simply stunning bundle is seriously calling me:

I am a huge fan of Gone to Earth, and there is the lovely, scrummy Oh deer Bundle....

Today I am actually off to Thermae Spa in Bath and there is the wonderful Country Threads patchwork shop just around the corner... might just find myself wandering into there....
