Grey Skies!

At the moment the skies over England are pretty grey- we did see sunshine for a few hours last week!

Now it is back to grey!

When I made the secret quilt last week I backed it with some gorgeous greys from my stash, so I have now  been window shopping for greys...

I love these little elephants from The Eclectic Maker. I used the blue version in a quilt I made for a lovely little boy last year. I can see using these in a quilt soon...

I am a caffeine addict - it is what gets me through the days! So when I found this fabulous fabric with coffee pots and beans from The Village Haberdashery I just fell in love! The Modern Home line all look so lovely in fact!

The Architextures line has hit the quilting world with a huge bang! It everywhere and everyone is talking about it! I have been adding bits of it to orders of other fabric and this one is one of my favourites. Backstitch has a fab selection of fabrics from the range, including this one.

I love this one! I have used it in blue/green version and it is gorgeous! I love the birds on the spokes and and the feel of the organic fabric. M is for Make has green too....

I love Sketch! I am using it more and more in quilts, it blends in so easily and this charcoal version is perfect for adding texture. Simply Solids has a wonderful selection of Sketch fabrics.

So go shopping for grey and embrace the grey skies!

Feeling grey!

A couple of weeks ago I was going crazy for orange... I am still hankering after some orange in my stash, but a lack of funds and having to pay expenses for the courses I teach means I haven't managed to get there yet..

But I have been window shopping again, but this time for greys. After the post about the the greys in nature, I have been even more observant of the colour around whilst I drive around the county, so I have been hunting out grey in all it's glory:

The Sketch range of fabric is gorgeous, and this Charcoal from Fat Quarter Shop is full of texture!

 

 

I am working on a quilt for maxi at the moment - his fish one is too baby ish - and I love this range from Jay McCarroll. This is Boston in Midtown from the Center City range, which the Village Haberdashery have.

I love everything from Sweetwater, and this fantastic Tangled Thread is no exception! One of my new favourite online stores, Eclectic Maker has it luckily!

 

I do actually have this in my secret stash basket! It is Eyelet in Grey from Flea Market Legacy and it is fabulous! The wonderful Saints and Pinners have some in stock, so grab it fast!

As you can see I have yet another shopping list of fabrics.... just need to get paid or win the lottery first though!

Wondered why I like grey..

Over the last year or so I have been experimenting with white, cream and grey as background to the quilts I have made.

The white and cream I understand, they make the colours go pop! Combine that with some gorgeous quilting the finished quilt looks amazing!

But I have been puzzled as to why I am drawn to the ash, charcoal and grey. In January and made my littlest monster a quilt with a gorgeous grey from Kona:

Then on Tuesday I was driving to teach in Gloucester and I could see the rain clouds coming on over the Severn from Wales. The view is spectacular in the sunshine, but yesterday there was a fierce grey sky, not a placid grey, but a really grey.

As I drove I realised that all of the colours popped against the grey back drop. The colours of the tops of the trees were vivid, the browns of the fields were richer..

I suddenly realised that I am drawn towards grey as a background because it reflects nature. It can be found as a stunning backdrop on the most of horrible days!
